Renewed Hope: FG to Deliver 5,000 New Homes in Lagos, Opens Door for Diaspora Nigerians

Nigerians living at home and abroad have been urged to key into the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope housing scheme which will deliver 5,000 new homes in Lagos.

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said an official portal will soon be opened for interested and qualified Nigerians to apply for the houses.

The houses are being built in collaboration with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited and are located in Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos.

The project site covers Lekki Aviation Town, The Parliament and GranVille Estate and is expected to be completed within three years.

The groundbreaking event took place at Lekki Aviation Town, Yegunda Government Resettlement Scheme, Ibeju-Lekki, where the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, said the initiative is part of efforts to tackle the country’s housing challenge.

Darma noted that President Bola Tinubu is worried over the over 15 million housing deficit in Nigeria which impacts about 120 million citizens.

He also hinted that government is working on a bigger social housing plan that would provide 100 houses in each local government area across the country, plus another 100,000 housing units programme still under assessment.

According to him, government is currently carrying out costing to factor in building cost differences in various states.

Managing Director of Harmony Gardens, Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa, popularly called Mr Ibile, said the collaboration will help many Nigerians become homeowners without the burden of paying at once.

He said the project is focused on building livable and sustainable estates where people can pay through mortgage arrangements.

He advised parents, young professionals and Nigerians in diaspora who plan to return or retire in Lagos to explore the opportunity early.

He assured that his company is committed to delivering the project within 36 months with full infrastructure.

The groundbreaking ceremony drew dignitaries including traditional rulers such as Onikosi of Ikosi, Oba Samuel Alamu Kehinde Oloyede Onikosi, Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, Oba Abdulganiyu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu, Oloja of Epe Land, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, as well as federal and state government officials.

Lagos State Government was represented by Prince Bayo Balogun who stood in for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Noheem Adams who represented Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Damola Akinyelure of Metroscape also lauded Harmony Gardens for its role in housing delivery, referencing its earlier delivery of 4,000 units in Karsana, Abuja.

The ministry clarified that allocation will be based on eligibility and mortgage qualification once the portal is live.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and other mortgage banks to learn about available mortgage options and payment plans for the Lekki-Epe corridor houses.
