Lagos Government Advises Motorists to Plan Ahead as FG Begins Repairs on Kara Bridge
Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has advised motorists in the state to plan their movements ahead of the scheduled shutdown of a section of the Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for repair works.
Prestige Real Estate News reports that the Federal Ministry of Works announced at the weekend that repair works will commence on the bridge following reported damage to a section of the busy expressway.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged residents travelling to Ibadan on Tuesday to consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
“We advise motorists traversing the corridor to plan their journeys ahead,” the commissioner said.
According to him, to reduce the impact on traffic, one half of the affected section will be closed at a time, while motorists will share the other open half interchangeably.
“The government appeals to all motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic managers to ensure the rehabilitation is completed in two weeks as scheduled,” Osiyemi added.
The Kara Bridge is a major link between Lagos and other southwest states and experiences heavy vehicular movement daily. The repair works are expected to address structural concerns and improve safety for road users.
Motorists have been advised to monitor traffic updates and use alternative routes where possible during the period of the repairs.
