Efficient technology, environmentally-friendly policies key to sustainable real estate practice — Don | Prestige Real Estate News

To help the country make giant strides in addressing the housing deficit through sustainable housing, an associate professor in the Department of Industrial and Labour Relations, University of Lagos, Dr Tunde Elegbede, has called on real estate practitioners in the country to employ efficient technology and environmentally-friendly policies, among others.

Deploying input-efficient technology, environmentally-friendly policy, renewable resources towards designing and implementation of sustainable real estate development, he said, will not only augur well for the country but also promote a sustainable real estate practice in the country.

Elegbede stated this while speaking on “Sustaining Real Estate Development Through Excellent Delivery and Talent Retention” at a retreat organised by Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited for its members of staff and consultants.

Elegbede said rural-urban migration, urbanisation, government’s inability to develop rural areas and population explosion in urban settings are vital indicators of opportunity for real estate entrepreneurs to tap into and build smart cities in Nigeria’s urban areas.

He identified Smart City as the new option for the world because of its social and economic impact as it emphasises technology-driven human habitations to promote good health, reduce traffic jams, efficient communication, seamless management, and public safety among others.

According to him, the concept of smart initiative in real estate today is such that nothing is a waste anymore by inventing another use (recycling) for things that seemed useless at any point in time.

Also speaking at the event, a human resources consultant, Mrs Dorcas James, described real estate as a lucrative but highly competitive business, stressing that success in the sector comes only to operators who can add value to their real estate products.

She identified the increasing housing deficit in the country, global clients’ taste and population surge as variables that will continue to create markets for the property business, even as she noted that Pelican Valley, which is a brand already built on integrity, should leverage on these factors to seize the market and dominate it.

The resource person said the firm could accomplish the goal by sustaining the corporate behaviour that has continued to earn her the trust of clients which are integrity, ethical principles and due diligence as well as making talent retention the driver.

The two speakers also hailed Pelican Valley for its achievements, especially the Smart Home initiative, saying it is the direction the world is going.

Earlier in his address, the CEO of Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, Dr Babatunde Adeyemo, said the retreat sought to appraise where the organisation was coming from, where it is today and where it should be tomorrow.

According to him, the firm has recorded significant achievements in the nation’s real estate sector with the Smart Home initiative as evidenced in the commissioned set of apartments at Ecostay Apartments.

Also at the event, the firm rewarded outstanding staff members with cash prizes, landed properties and awards.

Those presented with cash gifts are the Director of Operations, Olumide Akintomide; Chief Security Officer, Jude Babangida; Miss Esther Sipeolu; Azeez Hammed Opeyemi and Mr Soliu Owoyabu while the trio of Ernest Nwokolo, Quosim Oladosu, and security guard, Simon Imrya, was presented with documents, including survey plan, plot allocation letter and a deed of gift for plots of land at the firm’s staff estate in Kobape corridor of Ogun State.
